Catching Up and Moving On

So...September 25th, 2006 was my lost post...........................................nice.

Because its been so long, I have a lot to tell you guys....don't I only have like....one reader, though? (Thank you, Meg)
Okay so here it is: My...the past few months...
After the Highland games, things started to slow down. Then my brother's wedding happened. On October 7th my brother and his fiance, Jaqueline ("Jackie") were married in a Scottish-style wedding that was gargantually awesome! All the men in the wedding party wore kilts and the women wore nice dresses and held bouquets. Of course, Jackie was in the traditional white gown and looked like a princess while Nathan stood in front of the pastor like the knight in shining armor he was. I thought Jackie was going to cry as most brides do, but she didn't cry until Nathan started choking up and tears were rolling down his cheeks. This set an eruption of tears and sniffs from about 90% of the wedding party (yes, even me) and most of the...what are they called? Spectators? Audience? Congregation? I'll just go with Congregation. Anyway, the music was awesome--they had hired a violinist and bagpiper to go with the organ. Loud and jumbo/LARGE-ly awesome! After the festivities, there were more festivities as we arrived at the wedding reception party at an old tavern/mill place that was really neat. The evening concluded with everyone being too exhausted to barely make it out the door, one guy drunk enough to miss putting his glass back on the table, and a bill that they're still trying to pay off.
...I've never danced at a party like that before...well, I haven't actually ever been to one like that before, but you get my point...I even did the robot! Weird...I didn't even drink anything except water...unless that wasn't water....
No, it was water, but I was weird. It was all fun, though.

Okay, so October was done, then, pretty much. Then came Thanksgiving and Christmas during which we ate too much, spent too much, and received too much from each other (everyone had about a box and a half of stuff)...we were trying to 'reduce' and 'cut back' and 'save space' and 'lose weight'...wait...Where do we get the money for all that, anyway? Most of the year, we're all struggling to make a buck-nine.

The new year passed and birthdays flew by (we only have three left in our immediate family to celebrate this year) and we come to today. I've finished two more courses and am working on the last two required for graduation....so close.

I've also started writing songs for a band. Many still need a lot of work, but I like each one of them. We should be able to get things started within the next two weeks! Exciting!

I'm, unfortunately, no further with my books, but I've got several lined up, so I'd better get busy and finish my courses so I can work on what I really want to give attention to: my projects.
Speaking of projects, my family is going to a fair in New Jersey this month as vendors and we're hoping to do well and get the name of TaleWeavers out there further. By my posting the name here, many people will now notice it...getting it out there even further. If you've never heard of it, look it up--my family's got lots of cool crafts and skills that they can offer to anyone who needs them.

Well, that's it. No more. Adios. OH! That reminds me--there is one more thing, last week I got the opportunity to go to a concert for Mercy Me, Aaron Shust, and Audio Adrenaline. This is part of their goodbye tour...which ends up in Hawaii for a finish (I don't think I'll get to that one, but it was cool to see all three groups live--I've seen AA before, but never so close). I also met up with some friends of mine...two of which didn't recognize me because of the time we've been apart with little or no communication, unfortunately. It took the third a few seconds, then it clicked. It was good to see them all again and I hope we get to see each other more often--great people. Okay...that's it. I'll have to post more later.
God bless you all!

Scottish Pride

I went on a trip recently with my parents and little sister (on Sept. 8th, 9th, 10th) to central Pennsylvania for two events: Skutching and Scottish Highland Games. Skutching is a process by which Flax is turned into linen for fabrics. Skutching is a word which translates to "beating". So, they beat the flax until the tough, hard shell is cracked and separated from the inner flax material. It's then brushed by Heckles (a cast-iron board with spikes sticking out. The Flax is pulled across the Heckles and then spun and woven into the fabric for the final product- it's amazingly soft!
My favorite event, however, was the Scottish Highland Games. Although we didn't stay long, we were there for the opening ceremonies and some of the games. Man, it was AWESOME! There were three bands that marched in one at a time, each playing a different song. Before they marched out, they all played a song together. There were 270 members total, 130 of which were playing bagpipes- it was loud, but it was awesome! Then, after the Honored Clans marched through, the games began. We only saw two of the games, but even that much was rewarding. First, we saw them compete in the Caber Toss- you have to flip a 17-foot (180 lb.) log forward and make it land at 12:00 position in front of you. Only one guy was able to get it- twice! Then there came the hammer-throw which wasn't that interesting, surprisingly- mainly because we were on the other side of the field- it was harder to see everything. The whole experience was just amazing and I definately want to go back next year. Also while we were down there, we saw a map and found the Elliot (Elliott, Elliot, Eliot, Eliott; four spellings of our name) land in Scotland- it's in the south east area of Scotland.
We had a good time and would definately recommend that you attend one of these events if you can, or something like it in your area- it's worth it.

Until We Meet

The summer sun sets as a chilly air settles over the land, signaling the arrival of autumn’s reign. Crunching leaves underfoot. Scarves tangled in the wind. We walk, unnoticed by the other, down the road with no end. Dancing on the wind around our heads, leaves swirl. Yellow. Red. Brown. Green. The colors melt together. Darkness falls on the road as we pass each other. The distant sound of crickets in the field echo as the sun says Good Night. Until we meet, may you be blessed, my darling. ~A poem for my meant-to-be; whoever she may be, I await our meeting.

It's been a while...

It's been a couple weeks, hasn't it?

Well now, what has happened in the past few weeks?

Well, first off, I've started two new devotional studies: Read the Bible in a year and a devotional book about the gospel of Mark. Both are going slowly, but they're pretty good.

I've talked to Megan several times and each time gives me more to think about and be appreciative of; like having a friend like Megan, having the priveledge of being able to follow Christ as I go through life, and for the random times and winking staplers that give us the laughs we need to make it through each day.

I've not gotten very far with my writing, sadly. I did, however, have a breakthrough today with one of my stories. This breakthough will allow me to get past this writer's block and continue on my journey to become a published author. KEoA is so close to being finished- I just can't get past the wall standing in front of that.

I finished reading The DaVinci Code finally. It's too complicated to talk about all the details, but I can say this: If a Christian wants to read it, remember your Christian teachings as you read through it and remember that it's only a fiction novel- not to be taken literally. Dan Brown makes many good points and his research seems to pay off, but being fiction, much of what he talks about is false. Remember: Jesus never married or had children; and the Church did not try to hide anything, thus hiding things from the Bible's translations. Keeping these in mind, enjoy the book for the story and reflect on what the Bible is really trying to tell us.

That's about it for now...I have to run off to bed now. I'll write more later.

Photographic Memory

Okay...whoa...today was awesome! So funny!
We (Mom, Dad, Meghann, Jensyn, and I) went to Delgrosso's amusement park today and went Putt Putting...ah ha ha ha ha!
Okay...
My mom hit her golf ball against a wall and it bounced into the water which was moving quickly. Jensyn and I made swipes at it to try to get it out, but we missed. Meghann ran down the path a ways to head it off, but when she tried to get the ball, her camera fell into the water! So now we have two objects that we have to catch!
My dad gets down on his knees and leans over to get the ball (he still hasn't seen the camera at this point) and makes a swipe into the water, but misses barely. The water swirls down a path into a pond area in which the water pump is placed. We continued down the path a bit around the pond to try to get them when they got there. The pump drew in the camera and ball, but Meghann was already swiping at the ball with her club again. Jensyn and Mom got the pole with which to get the ball out of the water and took it to Meghann who had just gotten the ball out of the water. At this point my Dad noticed the camera.
"Oh! Someone dropped a camera!" He laughed a lot, then Meghann, still struggling with the ball said, "That's my camera! Dad, that's MY camera!"
Dad was still laughing and didn't hear Meghann until she repeated herself.
"Oh! It's yours? Oh my gosh!" He continued laughing. We all were laughing- it was a fun chase. Meghann stood up and took the ball pole as the camera slowly circled around the pump as it was pulled in by the suction. My dad held Meghann's hand to support her while she reached with the pole to get the camera, but the pole was too short. After a while of trying to figure out a new plan, Meghann and Jensyn found out that the pole can extend 9 feet!
I, having longer arms, was asked to take the pole and give it a try, giving us a new length. I knew Meg wouldn't be able to support me, so I grabbed the nearby tree...bad idea! After wiping off some of the needles that stuck in my arm, I grabbed my Dad's hand and leaned in to try to get the camera with the pole. At the point of almost falling into the water, I barely got the camera and sent it away a few more inches...just enough for it to be out of range again!
We retreated again and took our next shots to try to get our game finished (we were on 17/18 holes) so that the family behind us didn't have to wait too long. They saw our situation and the father took the pole to the camera again. He took a more dangerous position around the scenery and stretched out, grabbing onto the camera with the pole. He slid it over to his children (two sons and a daughter) who picked it out of the water and gave it to my Mom, who then gave it to Meghann. Allowing the camera to drip off most of the water it had taken on, we thanked the family and went to hole 18 to finish our game.
Meghann is sure that the film is destroyed...but MAN was that funny!
We even took a few pictures of the event if anyone wants to see.

More later.
